Murthy's Single Alphabet Etymology of Vedic Nakshatra System
Important Note:

I have written the text of the Sanskrit etymology and other descriptions in Devanagari script and in Hindi language so that all with ability to read the Devanagari script and Hindi will be able to read and understand. The Hindi I have used is pregnant with Sanskrit words, so that it is to understand in the most authentic format of the Sanskrit language.

सनातन धर्म प्रकार 27 नक्षत्रो और वे नक्षत्रो का बारः राशियो है. 

1. अश्विनी नक्षत्र : 

इस नक्षत्र अश्विनी देवतो का संकेत है. 
अह + व = अश्व; अ: या अह संस्कृत भाषाका अन्त्य स्वर है. अ: के बाद व जोड कर अश्व पद जन्म होगा. अश्विनी देवतो 

अश्विनी aśvinī) a spread from 0°-0'-0" to 13°-20', corresponding to the head of Aries, including the stars β and γ Arietis. The name aśvinī is used by Varahamihira
found in the Atharvaveda and in Panini (4.3.36), was aśvayúj, "harnessing horses".
Ashvini is ruled by Ketu, the descending lunar node. Asvini is ruled by the Ashvins, the heavenly twins who served as physicians to the gods. Personified, Asvini is considered to be the wife of the Asvini Kumaras. Ashvini is represented by the head of a horse.
2. भरणि नक्षत्र
भ + र + णि + भरणि
उदाहरण: भ + र = भर (हिन्दी मे भर किको भरना अदेश देना पद है. ; भरना या भरण भर कार्य सूचक है. उदाहरण: कुंकुम भरणि. शुद्ध जल भरणि
Bharani is the second nakshatra, corresponding to 35, 39, and 41 Arietis all together. Bharani is ruled by Shukra (the planet Venus). 
3. कृत्तिका नक्षत्र: 
कृत + त = कृत्ता ----> कृत्तिका. कैन्चि. काट करना उपकारान है. 
The star cluster Kṛttikā corresponds to the open star cluster called Pleiades in western astronomy; one of the clusters which makes up the constellation Taurus.  = "the cutters" It is also the name of its goddess-personification, who is a daughter of Daksha and Panchajani, and thus a half-sister to Khyati. Spouse of Kṛttikā is Chandra ("moon"). The six Krittikas who raised the Hindu God Kartikeya are Śiva, Sambhūti, Prīti, Sannati, Anasūya and Kṣamā. It is ruled by Sun.
4. रोहिणि नखत्र 
रुः ----> रोः ---> रोहन; आरोहण = ऊर्ध्व मुख चलना या चरणा; और अवरोहण = अधो मुख चलना या चारण.
रोहण पुल्लिङ्ग सूचक है; रोहिणी स्त्री लिङ्ग सूचक है. 
5. मृगशिरा या मृगशीर्ष नक्षत्र 
मृ अक्षर इस नक्षत्रका एक मूल बीजाक्षर है. ग = गमनात्, चलता या चरणा या चारणा. मृग पद सब् जीव, जन्तु या यन्त्र भूमि पर चलनेवाले सबको अन्वय होगा. मनुष्य चाति सब् मृग ही हैं. 
शिर पद सब् जॆवजन्तोङ्का शिर सुचता है. 
Mṛgaśira nakṣatra extends from after 23°20 in Vṛṣabha Rāśi up to 6°40 in Mithuna. Star is governed by mars and the presiding deity or God is a Soma God. Soma mean Chandra or Moon God. He hold amrita (nectar or eternity poison ). Symbol is Antelope or Deer. Rules the following parts of the body : face, chin, cheeks, larynx, palate, throat, vocal chord, arms, shoulders, thymus gland, upper ribs.

The word mṛga represents animals, all earthly living beings, humans, and even the vehicles that traverse on land, which search and seek to find and explore, to roam about in forests and a hunter, to seek to blaze the trail, a guide and preceptor. Mṛgaśirṣa is partly in Vṛṣabha and partly in Mithuna. It conveys the ideas of searching for beautiful faces, visiting or requesting a girl in marriage. People born in this nakṣatra have a strong body and moderate complexion.

This is referred to as the Star of searching. These individuals are constantly searching or looking for something. They are restless, nervous types always traveling. They are collectors looking for one more piece to add to their collections. They love to shop and find that special deal, and the shopping or searching never ends. Like the deer they are gentle, peaceful, tender and have large soft doe like eyes.

They are seekers and are powerful investigators and researchers. Highly intelligent their quest will eventually take them to spiritual dimensions of their soul. There is a sensual provocative side that can lead to incestuous relationships as the myth suggests. The fun is in the chase or the journey not the destination, for then the thrill is over. They are known for having bright & beautiful children.
6. आर्द्र नक्षत्र
ऋ + दृ = आर्द्र ------> आर्द्र; ऋ का उदाहरण् पद प्रयोग है "ऋषि"; दृ अक्षर का उदाहरण् पद है "रुद्र", रुद्र विभकृ दीर्घाक्ष्र प्रयोगसे उत्पन्न हुअ पद है: आरिद्र . आरिद्र पदका अर्थ और संकेत है "रुद्र पूर्ण".
It is associated with the star Betelgeuse (α Ori). The Ardra nakshatra extends from 06 degrees 40 minutes to 20 degrees 00 minutes of Mithun (Gemini).
The myth associated to Ardra is that of Tārakā. Tārakā is an asura who is granted invulnerability by Brahma.
The presiding deity is Rudra, its symbol is a teardrop, the ruling planet is Rahu. In Tamil and Malayalam, Ardra is referred to as Tiruvātirai and Tiruvātira respectively.
Ardra :- It lies completely in Gemini and the ruling planet is Rahu,which is the North lunar node; hence it is a Mercury+Rahu combination. It can be considered as the combination of intellectual feeling with passionate thinking. The deity is ‘Rudra’, the God of destruction and it renders this quality in the native. ‘Ardra’ means moist or wet. It is symbolized as a teardrop. As Rahu is the ruling planet the darker side of keen desire of materialism, causing troubles for others.Thunder power can make a person violent by nature.

7. पुनर्वसु नक्षत्र
पुनः + वसु = पुनत्वसु; पुनः = और दूसरा, थीस्र ... बार. वसु = सब् जीवियो = सब् सस्यो, कृमि कीतो, मृय्गो, मानवो इत्यादि धरति मे जीवित हो. इस नक्षात्र का संकेत और सारांश = प्रति वर्ष, दशक, शत मान, सहस्र मान, लक्ष और बहु कोटि, कोटि सम्वत्सरमे अनेक बारी पैदा हुअ हमारा भॊमियो का जीव कोटि.
वः + उ = वसु; पुं + ह् = पुनः 
Punarvasu extends from 20 degrees 00 minutes of Mithun (Gemini) to 03 degrees 20 minutes of Kark (Cancer). There is also a general belief that men born under this nakshatra have only male children. There have been exceptions to this common belief.
“On completion of the ritual six seasons have passed by and then in the twelfth month, on the ninth day of Chaitra month [April–May,] when the presiding deity of ruling star of the day is Aditi, where the ruling star of day is Punarvasu (Nakshatra), the asterism is in the ascendant, and when five of the nine planets viz., Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus are at their highest position, when Jupiter with Moon is ascendant in Cancer, and when day is advancing, then Queen Kausalya gave birth to a son with all the divine attributes like lotus-red eyes, lengthy arms, roseate lips, voice like drumbeat, and who took birth to delight the Ikshwaku dynasty, who is adored by all the worlds, and who is the greatly blessed epitome of Vishnu, namely Rama.” 
This is the birth nakshatra of Lord Rama. The word Punarvasu is derived from Puna:+ Vasu, which means return, renewal, restoration or repetition. The 12 Adityas were born of Kasyapa in the womb of Aditi. The 12 Adityas are Indra, Vaga, Vayu, Twasta, Varuna, Aryama, Pusa, Mitra, Agni, Parjyanya, Vivaswan and Dinakar. The mother Aditi of whom the Gods are born is the repository of everything good-truth, generosity, magnanimity, purity, aristocracy, beauty and renown. It follows that this star is the cause for these virtues. To start afresh after having once broken off, to start a new life, to come back from a distant land-all. Punarvasu signifies these. It stands for freedom from restriction and limitation, and boundless space.
8. पुष्य नक्षत्र 
पुः ---> पुषि ---- {विभक्ति) -----> पुषिय = पुष्य 
उदाहरण् विभक्ति: द्रुः  --> दृश  --> दृश्य, तिः  --> तिष्  --> तिष्य. काश्य (काश्य ---> हाष्य ---> काश्यप}; 
Pushya is a nakshatra in Indian astrology. Some texts give its name as Tishya meaning to look. It corresponds to γ, δ and θ Cancri, in the Cancer (constellation). The Hindu god Bharata, brother of Rama was born under this Nakshatra. It is also mentioned in the story of the Birth of Buddha.
Pushya is known as Pooyam in Malayalam.

9. आश्लेषा नक्षत्र 
आः + लेष  ---> आश + लेष ----> आश्लेषा
लेष = कनिष्ट (अंश). आश्लेषा = कनिष्ट् शेष भाग. लिष --> लेष. शेष = अङ्क गणित मे भागाकर कर पाके कार्य पूर्ण मे अन्त्य मे शेष रहेग. आदि + शेष = आदिशेष = श्रीमन् नारायण आदिशेष सर्प पर ध्यान सक्त होरह्ता है. 
Ashleshay (Sanskrit: आश्लेषा or Āśleṣā) is the 9th of the 27 nakshatras in Hindu astrology. Ashlesha is also known as the Clinging Star or Nāga. It is known as the Hydra. It extends from 16:40 to 30:00 Cancer.
The planetary lord is Mercury or Budha. Its presiding deities are the Nāgas. The nakshatra's symbol is a coiled serpent. It is a trikshna or sharp nakshatra. Its animal symbol is the male cat.The gods Lakshmana and Shatrughna, brothers of Rama, were born under this Nakshatra
Like its symbol, the Nāga or coiled serpent, people of this nakshatra are said to have confused emotions and inherent insecurities with the result that no matter how close you are to them, they will attack you to protect themselves. On the other hand, Ashlesha natives are said to have very good leadership skills, to be apt at managing even a large army, and to be diplomatic and cordial by nature.
Mahatma Gandhi and Ayilyam Thirunal of Travancore had the moon in this nakshatra, while Jawahar Lal nehru had this rising on his ascendant.
10. मघ नक्षत्र
मघ ---- संभन्ध सूचक विभक्ति प्रत्यय ---> माघ मास.

27. Uttara Bhadrapada

uttara = ut + tara = north, northwordly, pointing to noving towards north, moving forward
tara = compared to, better, faster. This is a caparative adjective.
tara compared to tama. tara is a comparative adjective whereas tama is a superlative adjective.
bha + dra = bhadra = firm, safe, not moving, unmovable, stable, blessed firmly
pada = pace, beat, feet, steps, word
